1. Policy Statement
WindowGuru recognizes its responsibility to minimize environmental impact and operate in an environmentally sustainable manner. We are committed to pollution prevention, compliance with all environmental legislation, and continual improvement of our environmental performance.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all WindowGuru operations, service delivery, equipment, products used, waste generated, and transportation activities across Ottawa and the Greater Toronto Area.
3. Our Commitments
WindowGuru commits to:
- Complying with the Ontario Environmental Protection Act (EPA), Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), and all applicable municipal regulations
- Preventing pollution at all operational sites through use of biodegradable, non-toxic chemicals
- Minimizing water consumption and preventing contamination of stormwater systems
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through route optimization and fuel-efficient equipment
- Minimizing waste generation and maximizing reuse and recycling
- Using EcoLogo-certified and Green Seal-certified cleaning products where available
- Communicating environmental expectations to all employees
- Reviewing and updating this policy annually
4. Chemical Management
- All cleaning chemicals are biodegradable and non-toxic to aquatic life
- Safety Data Sheets (SDS) maintained on-site for all products
- WHMIS-compliant storage, labeling, and handling
- No phosphates, chlorinated solvents, or VOC-heavy products
- Bulk purchasing to minimize packaging waste
5. Water Management
- Water capture and filtration in environmentally sensitive areas
- No direct discharge of wash water to storm drains without filtration
- Wastewater managed per municipal sewer use bylaws
- Equipment cleaned at designated wash areas only
6. Spill Prevention and Response
- Spill kits carried on every service vehicle and at every active site
- All crew members trained in spill response procedures
- Immediate containment, cleanup, and reporting per regulatory requirements
- Regulatory reporting to MECP Spills Action Centre for reportable quantities
7. Emissions and Fuel Management
- Route optimization to reduce vehicle kilometres traveled
- Regular preventive maintenance to maintain fuel efficiency
- Anti-idling policy for all vehicles and equipment
- Assessment of electric/battery equipment alternatives annually
- Carpooling and crew consolidation to minimize vehicle trips
8. Waste Minimization
- Concentrated chemicals diluted on-site to minimize transport and packaging
- Reusable containers and equipment where practical
- Recycling of all applicable materials (containers, packaging)
- Proper disposal of hazardous waste through licensed facilities
9. Continual Improvement
- Annual review of environmental performance metrics
- Assessment of new technologies and greener alternatives
- Employee environmental awareness training
- Tracking of environmental incidents (target: zero)
